Little secrets between Sendlinger Tor and Marienplatz

HIDDEN IN THE CORNER – THE SOUTH ROUTE

Discover many photo opportunities that require an unusual perspective, but are rewarded with a completely new view of Munich – especially around the famous St. Johann Nepomuk Church by the Asam brothers.
Wind your way with me along the right and left sides of Sendlinger Straße from the former city gate to Marienplatz and, along the way, find out what the Rappeneck is all about.
Discover how an old factory hall can be transformed into a shopping arcade with a promenade atmosphere and where you can see your reflection in one of Munich's largest gas molecules.

Impressions

Description:

This walk is a colorful mix of old and new, witty and tragic, amusing and sardonic, medieval and ultra-modern. We'll talk about facades and roofs, facts and legends, and, of course, the personalities behind all these diverse eye-catchers. It's simply about the mostly overlooked details that we all know about, yet we know nothing about. We'll wind our way along Sendlinger Straße toward Marienplatz, looking for locations where we can calmly discuss all these charming details. Let yourself be surprised and look forward to discovering the little secrets of our city!

My tips for before and after our tour:

We begin our tour at the southern end of the Old Town, so you're welcome to take a stroll through the Old South Cemetery beforehand. The gravestones read like a "who's who" of Munich's history, and you can wander through the atmospheric cemetery in heavenly peace.

And after our tour, you'll definitely still have time for an extensive shopping trip in the city center. Or, if our stop at the former Linde headquarters whets your appetite for more technological pioneering, you can end the day on a high note with a visit to the Deutsches Museum.

Frequently asked questions:

Would you recommend this tour for my family celebration, even though not everyone knows Munich well?

As always, I'm very flexible in adapting to your group! Depending on your previous knowledge, this tour can also be designed as a mix of well-known sights and little secrets. This way, there's sure to be something for everyone, and everyone will be more familiar with Munich afterward.

Do we have time on our tour to take a look inside the Asam Church?

If the church is open and there's no service in progress, we won't miss this Baroque gem! Right in the entrance area, we come across the famous Zech epitaph by Ignaz Günther, which familiarizes us with the Baroque concept of life and death.

Can I have a snack during the tour?

Of course, there are various culinary options along this route as well. For example, a quick coffee break in the quiet Asamhöfe restaurant behind the church. Or a truly refined meal at the kosher Einstein Restaurant in the Jewish Community Center.
