Little secrets between Sendlinger Tor and Marienplatz

Hidden in the corner – The southern route

Impressions

Description:

This walk is a colorful mix of old and new, witty and tragic, amusing and wry, medieval and ultra-modern. We'll talk about facades and roofs, facts and legends, and of course, the personalities behind all these diverse and eye-catching sights.

It's simply about the often overlooked details that we all actually know, yet about which we know nothing. We meander along Sendlinger Straße towards Marienplatz, searching for spots where we can calmly discuss all these endearing little things.

Just let yourself be surprised and look forward to the little secrets of our city!

Discover many photo opportunities that require an unusual perspective, but are rewarded with a completely new view of Munich – especially around the famous St. Johann Nepomuk Church by the Asam brothers.
Join me as we meander along Sendlinger Straße, from the former city gate to Marienplatz, and learn along the way what the Rappeneck is all about.
Discover how an old factory hall can be transformed into a shopping arcade with a promenade atmosphere and where you can see your reflection in one of Munich's largest gas molecules.

My tips for before and after our tour:

We begin our tour at the southern end of the old town, so you are welcome to take a stroll through the area beforehand. Old Southern Cemetery can do. The gravestones read like a "Who's Who" of Munich history, and one can wander through the atmospheric cemetery in heavenly peace.

And after our tour, there will definitely be time for some serious shopping in the city center. Munich's traditional department stores are always worth a visit!

Or perhaps our stop at the former Linde headquarters sparked your interest in more pioneering technology, so you can round off the day with a visit to German Museum can finish.

Frequently asked questions:

Would you recommend this tour for my family celebration, even though not everyone knows Munich well?

As always, I'm very flexible in adapting to your group! Depending on your previous knowledge, this tour can also be designed as a mix of well-known sights and little secrets. This way, there's sure to be something for everyone, and everyone will be more familiar with Munich afterward.

Can the interior rooms and furnishings also be viewed during this tour?

If the church is open and there's no service in progress, we won't miss this Baroque gem! Right in the entrance area, we come across the famous Zech epitaph by Ignaz Günther, which familiarizes us with the Baroque concept of life and death.

Can I have a snack during the tour?

Of course, there are various culinary options along this route. For example, a short coffee break in the quiet Asam courtyards behind the church. Or a more refined meal at the kosher Restaurant Einstein, located in the restaurant at the Jewish Community Center.
