Little secrets between Isartor and Marienplatz
HIDDEN IN THE CORNER – THE EAST ROUTE
| Discover many photo opportunities that are often hidden in the small side streets to the right and left of the old Salzstraße, and are thus still hidden from many Munich lovers. | |

Walk with me to the right and left of the so-called Tal, the street that connects the Isartor with Marienplatz. The two city gates in the old and new city walls alone are worth a closer look! |
| Join me as we explore parts of Graggenau and the Angerviertel, where the medieval structure of Munich's old town can still be seen in the maze of narrow streets. |
Impressions
Description:
This walk is a colorful mix of old and new, witty and tragic, amusing and sardonic, medieval and ultra-modern. We'll take a close look and discover backyards and facade decorations, hear about old Munich with its legends, and, of course, about all the personalities behind the diverse eye-catchers. It's simply about the mostly overlooked details that we all actually know but still know nothing about. Just let yourself be surprised and look forward to discovering the little secrets of our city!
The most important things in brief:
Meeting point:
in the courtyard of the Isartor
public transport:
accessible by all S-Bahn or tram 16/17/19
Duration:
bookable as a 2-hour tour
Distance:
approx. 1.5 km
My tips for before and after our tour:
Since our meeting point is on the eastern edge of the Old Town, you can of course start this tour with a stroll along the banks of the Isar River or even visit the Deutsches Museum beforehand. If you'd like to fortify yourself before our tour, it's best to visit the Turmstüberl (Turmstüberl) in the Isartor gate, right next to the meeting point—but it's best to allow plenty of time, not because one pair of white sausages might turn into two. The climb up the tower leads through the Valentin-Karlstadt-Museum, where you can easily spend a few hours enjoying the humor of these two Munich originals.
Frequently asked questions:
Is it possible to visit Hofbräu Kunstmühle during our tour?
We'll definitely stop by there on my route. If you'd like to take a look inside, the Art Mill offers one-hour guided tours. We're happy to include this option on my tour as well.
Would you recommend this tour for my family celebration, even though not everyone knows Munich well?
As always, I'm very flexible in adapting to your group! Depending on your previous knowledge, this tour can also be designed as a mix of well-known sights and little secrets. This way, there's sure to be something for everyone, and everyone will be more familiar with Munich afterward.
Can I have a snack during the tour?
Of course, because there were many inns along the former Salt Road in the past, so we can still enjoy traditional Bavarian fare there today. Perhaps you'd like to try authentic Bavarian Kronfleisch (pork meat) cuisine? Then a stop at the Schneider Bräuhaus is recommended. Or perhaps you'd like to get a taste of our national drink? Then, of course, we can't miss a little beer tasting at the Beer and Oktoberfest Museum.
