Around 1900, young, visionary artists in Munich set out to revolutionize art and reform life. In a time of rapid scientific and technological innovations and social upheaval, they participated in the search for a fairer and more sustainable way of life. Artists such as Richard Riemerschmid, Hermann Obrist, and Margarethe von Brauchitsch turned away from historical models to find a new art that would permeate life down to the smallest detail. Their ideas and designs form the basis for modern art and design. With over 400 objects from painting, graphic arts, sculpture, photography, design, and fashion, the exhibition illuminates Munich's role as the cradle of Art Nouveau in Germany and demonstrates how relevant the life questions discussed back then are today.
